Airbnb hands its business remit to an ex-Tripadvisor hand, BCD Travel maps out a two-year succession plan and the AI layer keeps creeping into distribution — with Aven wiring MCP across SynXis and Canary handing hoteliers an agent-building kit.

Airbnb hands business chief job to a Tripadvisor alumnus

Pepijn Rijvers is taking over several business areas from Dave Stephenson, bringing OTA and metasearch pedigree into the role. The move continues a busy year of senior turnover across the sector's top tables.

BCD Travel lines up a two-year succession

BCD has staged a run of leadership transitions: Marcus Eklund steps up to global chief commercial officer this month, with Dave Mitchell taking the Americas presidency and Tanya Green heading Mid-Markets from January 2027. The reshuffle follows the planned retirements of Mike Janssen at the end of 2026 and Craig Bailey in mid-2027 — a rare case of orderly, telegraphed handover in a year defined by abrupt exits.

A cluster of appointments landed this week: Lodgify named Shaun Shirazian CEO, Generator installed Xavier Mufraggi as CEO and Corporate Travel Management confirmed Ana Pedersen as permanent group CEO. Data and product chairs also filled up, with Travelodge naming Kinnari Ladha chief data officer, Access Hospitality appointing Aravinda Gollapudi as CTO and Convene Hospitality Group hiring Melanie Colton as chief product and technology officer.

AI agents get a foothold in the distribution layer

Aven embedded Model Context Protocol across SynXis, exposing hotel rates and availability to AI agents while leaving pricing and transaction control with the hotel. Canary Technologies went a step further with its Hospitality AI Agent Studio, letting operators build and deploy their own agents for reservations, operations and marketing — a sign the sector is moving past chatbots toward configurable workflow tooling.

Revenue tools push closer to the daily grind

RoomPriceGenie launched Revenue Intelligence to surface pricing signals and market data inside PMS dashboards, while Duetto extended BlockBuster with OpenSpace to price group and function space within its enterprise platform. Revenue Analytics also debuted Climber RMS aimed at independent and regional groups — collectively pulling revenue decisions out of standalone screens and into operational flow.

Hilton and Sabre wire conversational AI into booking

Hilton launched an AI Planner on Hilton.com, hooking it into Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Claude for trip planning and Honors redemption. Sabre added Concierge.AI to SynXis with multilingual chat, automated pre-arrival emails and voice-assistant integration — both moves aimed at holding first-party ground as AI intermediaries edge into discovery.

Early-stage travel capital keeps flowing

The big platforms sat out the week on deals, but the startup layer stayed active: New Zealand's First Table closed a USD 12M Series A, Italian corporate-travel firm Bizaway raised €10M and Japan's XPERISUS took on ¥400M in debt. Modest numbers against a cooling Q1, but a steady pipeline nonetheless.
