Guesty closes its Smily acquisition, Booking Holdings lines up $100m for an AI booking watchdog, Hilton names a new CTO and the industry edges from AI features toward AI-bookable inventory.

Guesty seals Smily to deepen its French footprint

Guesty has completed its acquisition of Smily, the French vacation-rental PMS and channel manager formerly known as BookingSync, extending its reach in the French short-term rental market. The deal follows Guesty's reported backing of roughly $410m from investors including KKR and Apax Digital Fund.

Booking Holdings puts $100m behind an AI that watches the competition

Booking Holdings plans a conditional $100m investment in Vayo, an AI travel assistant that monitors users' reservations — including those booked on rival platforms — for price changes and disruptions. Vayo is in private beta, with broader availability planned for the first half of next year.

Hilton hands Jeff Moore the CTO chair

Duetto wins B&B Hotels' 930-property rollout

PMS data learns to talk back

A cluster of launches this week pushed live operational data into conversational AI: roommaster's AI Connector wires PMS data into ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini via the Model Context Protocol, while Mews added native Guest Messaging that reportedly handles 80% of routine queries and TrustYou launched Ask TrustYou to replace dashboards. The common thread is AI assistants that can reach live inventory and guest context rather than sit on top as answer engines.

AI shifts from feature to booking channel

Analysis this week framed the competitive question as moving from who has an AI feature to whose inventory and data AI agents can actually transact: Google's AI Mode can complete hotel bookings, IHG is testing conversational search across 7,000-plus hotels and TikTok is trialling booking cards routing to Expedia, Booking.com and Trip.com. A Barcelona study of 27,360 AI travel answers found independent hotels eight times more likely than chains to be omitted, with hotel websites supplying just 7% of the information used.
