TikTok turns the feed into a booking channel, Oracle and Canary push AI deeper into hotel operations, Sonesta commits 1,100 properties to a cloud PMS and Direct Travel and Expedia rework their senior benches.
TikTok bolts a hotel-booking layer onto the feed
TikTok added hotel bookings through a partnership with Booking, letting users complete reservations without leaving the app, alongside TikTok Go which pays creators commission on hotel mentions. It is social commerce doing an OTA's job — worth watching for anyone tracking where demand gets sourced.
Oracle drops an assistant into OPERA Cloud
Oracle Hospitality launched OPERA Cloud Assistant, embedding AI directly into existing PMS workflows rather than bolting it on as a separate tool. For the large installed base of OPERA users, the significance is placement: AI arriving inside front-office and reservations tasks rather than beside them.
Canary opens an agent workshop
Canary Technologies introduced Hospitality AI Agent Studio, a platform for building and deploying custom AI agents across reservations, operations, sales and marketing from a single console. The pitch is configurable agents that respect brand standards and plug into existing systems — the operational face of the shift from chatbots to agents that act.
Sonesta hands 1,100 properties to Stayntouch
Over 1,100 Sonesta properties will move to Stayntouch's cloud PMS, a deployment rather than a launch but a meaningful vote of confidence in cloud PMS at portfolio scale. Rollouts of this size are the more telling signal — they show where the operational reality is heading, not just the product roadmap.
Direct Travel builds out its data and product bench
Direct Travel appointed Darryl Hoover as Chief Data Officer and Sarah Kuberry Martino as Chief Product Officer, adding two technology-facing seats to its C-suite. The pairing points to a corporate travel manager treating data and product as executive-level concerns rather than support functions.
Expedia lines up a CFO succession
Expedia Group named Derek Andersen as Chief Financial Officer effective 11 May 2026, succeeding Scott Schenkel, who departs 16 May. The group also appointed Bill Watkins as SVP and GM of global advertising, continuing to invest in its media business.
RoomPriceGenie explains itself
RoomPriceGenie released Price Explanations, which sets out the market conditions, demand signals and property settings behind each rate recommendation in plain language. Transparency is the adoption problem for automated pricing, and explaining the output is a sensible way to earn revenue managers' trust.
